Sahlim Charles is the Executive Director for Re-Imagining New Communities
Project Description: This research explores the availability, accessibility and condition of children's play and recreation spaces in urban informal settlements of Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on their role in improving children’s overall living conditions. Through participatory action research, children in our Children-Led Community Peace Labs will map existing play areas, assess their safety and functionality, and document how play impacts physical health, emotional well-being and community engagement. By involving children, parents and local stakeholders, the study will emphasize the need for safe, inclusive play environments and propose solutions to enhance or create such spaces, aiming to improve the living situation and holistic development of children within these communities.
Tasks: The collaboration partner will co-design the research framework, provide guidance on participatory research methods, assist in data analysis, and help develop the final report. They will also support capacity-building workshops for children who will lead the project.
Requirements: We seek a partner who has a background or interested in child rights, community development has done social sciences, with expertise in research. Familiarity with children’s issues and prior work with under-represented or marginalized groups will be appreciated.
